I grew up in the tea gardens of Assam, where the scent of fresh leaves filled the air and tea was simply a way of life.
I went on to study Genetics at Assam Agricultural University, focusing on _Camellia sinensis var assamica _, the plant behind every cup. What began as fascination turned into years of research – Understanding tea from the ground up. The crop, soil, flushes and the quiet practices that shape every sip.
Yet beyond science, tea always remained personal.
In my Punjabi home, chai was constant. It marked the start of mornings, welcomed guests and carried conversations that lingered. Some of life’s simplest and most meaningful moments unfolded over a cup of tea.
Then I moved to Mumbai.
In the rush of the city, I realised I missed something I had always taken for granted. The freshness of Assam tea , its character and briskness. What I found instead often felt stale with little or no flavour with no traceability of where it came from or how it was made. That is when I decided to procure my teas from my home state, Assam.
It was during my son’s school days that I met my friend and co-founder Prakriti Venkatesh, who surprisingly shared the same crazy passion for good tea.
Over endless cups of chai and conversations, Kettle Saga came into being, with a simple mission – to honour single-origin teas, procured in small batches, crafted and curated mindfully. Today, we work with estates that practise sustainability and recognise the women tea pluckers whose skill and resilience quietly shape every harvest.
Kettle Saga runs with a strong vision – to bring tea back to what it truly is, connecting people to its roots, its craft, and its journey from leaf to cup, while making every sip feel a little more real, a little more enjoyable.
I am a journalist who has always believed that the most meaningful stories unfold in quiet moments, often over a cup of tea. For me, tea has never been incidental; it has been the setting where conversations slow down, where people open up and where memories are made.
Though I hail from South India, where coffee is almost a legacy, our shift of settlement made tea a ritual at home. I remember winter evenings at Delhi, sitting with my family on the terrace, cups warming our hands as much as our conversations. My dad loved to experiment with a unique orthodox long leaf and CTC blend without overthinking it, guided more by instinct than instruction. That’s when I first understood that tea is as much emotion as it is craft.
Journalism took me across India and the world, yet tea remained my constant. In Mumbai’s fast-moving newsroom culture, cutting chai carried me through long hours. It was during my post-pregnancy sabbatical, that I met my friend and partner, Amrit Arora. Born in Assam and deeply immersed in the study of Camellia Sinensis var. Assamica, she introduced me to some rich and brilliant teas from her home state. Interestingly she brought scientific depth to what I always felt instinctively about tea.
Over countless slow, unhurried conversations, we realised how little attention we pay to the quality of tea we drink and how rarely the richness of Assam teas and the people behind them are truly acknowledged.
That reflection became Kettle Saga.
Founded by two women with different yet complementary journeys, Kettle Saga is our attempt to bring authentic, high quality Assam tea to tea lovers across India and the world with absolutely no compromise.
As a founder, for me, Kettle Saga is not just about quality or flavour. It is about preserving a ritual I have loved all my life – thoughtfully, honestly, and one meaningful cup at a time.
“The first thing that struck me was the bold and enticing aroma of spices — a clear ‘taste me now’ signal. The flavour is spicy, tangy, familiar yet mysterious, with a wonderful feel-good warmth that lingers long after the last sip. Whether served warm in cold weather or iced in hot climates, this is a tea that must be experienced. The lasting warmth speaks volumes about the quality of the ingredients. I plan to enjoy a cup every day.”
